3 Ayurveda-Inspired Ways to Support Your Immune System Naturally

In times of uncertainty, many people turn to supplements to boost immunity. But as a Functional Ayurveda Coach, I’ve seen that sometimes less is more. Constant over-supplementation may not always serve your body best. Instead, tuning your immune support to your current situation can be more effective.

Here are three different scenarios you may find yourself in — and how to manage your immunity in each.

1. Staying at Home: Nourish Through Food First

If you’ve been home for two weeks or longer, are symptom-free, and have access to healthy foods, diet may be your best medicine. Ayurveda emphasizes eating a rainbow of nutrient-dense foods to keep the body strong and balanced.

  • Focus on whole, colorful fruits and vegetables.

  • Support digestion with warming spices like ginger, turmeric, and cumin.

  • Hydrate with clean water and herbal teas.

If your exposure to environmental toxins is low, your diet alone can be enough. Save your supplements for when you need them most.

2. Going Into Public: Add Supplement Protection

When you need to leave home for essentials or work, extra support is wise. Begin supplementing two days before exposure and continue for three days afterward.

Recommended supplements:

  • Vitamin C: 500 mg twice daily (morning and evening)

  • Vitamin D3: 5000 IU daily

  • Glutathione: 500 mg twice daily

  • Zinc Complex: once daily (such as New Chapter Organics Zinc Complex)

  • Curcumin: 2 capsules daily (Bulletproof Curcumin Max is excellent)

💡 Pro Tip: Take your first dose in the morning, 30 minutes before breakfast, and your evening dose before dinner for best absorption.

3. When You’re Feeling Ill: Prioritize Immune Recovery

If you’re dealing with flu, allergies, or another respiratory illness, more targeted immune support is recommended.

Ayurvedic & nutritional support:

  • Tulsi (Holy Basil): 30 drops, 1–2 times per day (Banyan Botanicals)

  • Curcumin Max: 2 capsules daily

  • Glutathione: 500 mg, 2–3 times per day

  • Vitamin C: 500 mg, 3 times per day

  • Zinc Complex: once daily

Tulsi, known as the “Queen of Herbs,” is especially valued in Ayurveda for supporting the lungs and immune system.
